Graduate and Undergraduate Conference Travel Award


The VISTA Trainee Conference Travel Support program aims to provide financial assistance for trainees who are engaged in research aligned with the VISTA program. The goal is to support the professional development of trainees by enabling them to present their research at relevant conferences, thereby fostering interdisciplinary research in biological and computational vision.

Award Information & Eligibility

VISTA will support conference travel costs for undergraduate and graduate students, who are supervised by a VISTA/CVR Core member. The maximum amount they can apply for is $3,000. Eligible expenses include travel, accommodations, conference registration/membership fees, and abstract submission fees.

To be eligible, the applicant must be presenting at the conference as the first author. Additionally, the conference topic must be directly related to the VISTA mandate, specifically focusing on the applications of biological or computational vision.

The selection process and post-award administration are carried out by the VISTA training committee. Applicants should submit their application to applyvista@yorku.ca.

Eligible Costs

  • Travel and accommodations related to conference attendance. Note that accommodations will be covered only for the duration spanning from the day before the conference begins to the day after it concludes. Please note in your application if your stay involves satellite events. 
  • Conference registration/membership fees.
  • Abstract submission fees.

Ineligible Costs

  • Per diems.
  • Passport and immigration/visa fees.
  • Reimbursement for airfare purchased using personal frequent flyer points programs.
  • Material costs of presenting (e.g. poster printing).
  • Any costs that exceed the maximum award amount of $3,000.

Expectations

  • Provide a statement defending how the conference is related to biological or computational vision science and its applications.

HOW TO APPLY

Please Note:

  • Applications must be received at least 3 weeks prior to proposed travel.
  • Funding will be considered for only one application per year.
